Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has given the green light to move to severe Level 4 water restrictions, in response to the continuing drought.
Part of the motion included issuing a report on how council can work with the State Government, to add recycled water into the drinking water supply. The new restriction will begin on Tuesday, but as part of the motion, Councillors will work closely with commercial users who have until February 25 to mitigate the potential impacts.
Mayor Peta Pinson says decent rainfall over the past week has improved conditions but it will be some time before water levels are replenished. Jump to. Sections of this page. Accessibility help. Email or phone Password Forgotten account? Sign Up.

We were trucking water to Gloucester for the first three weeks in January. After the drought, the first flushes of water down the rivers have presented challenges with high turbidity dirty water and phosphorous levels.
This allows us to extract and use water that otherwise might have to be let go. We want to thank everyone — the whole community has pulled together to conserve water during this extended drought. Level 2 restrictions mean that you can use handheld hoses for up to 30 minutes every second day, before 9am or after 4pm.

You can also use garden irrigation systems, or sprinklers, for 15 minutes only, as part of the 30 minute allocation. If your house number is an even number, water on the even days of the month; for houses with odd numbers, water on the odd days of the month, and there's no watering at all on the 31st day of any month.Nokia update news

If possible, always wash vehicles and flush boat motor engines on grassed areas - this will help keep your lawn alive! Outdoor cleaning of driveways, paved areas, windows, walls and roofs should all be undertaken using buckets only. The restrictions apply to households, businesses and public areas — with Council restricting their watering of parks and public areas also.
Bulahdelah's water storages have been topped up, the Karuah River at Stroud is starting to flow again, and Tea Gardens continues to rely on its aquifer supply. Winter times between: 7am—10am; 4pm—7pm every second day as per odds and evens system. Washing cars at home is permitted with a bucket and rinsing with a trigger nozzle on the lawn between 9am—12pm any day.
Irrigation of new turf is permitted for one week after laying, after which Level 2 restrictions on watering lawns applies. Topping up of private swimming pools is only permitted between the hours of 7am—9am, and 6pm—8pm, every day. Council has water licenses to draw water from river and ground water sources for town water supply.
This reduction in water supply, coupled with the ongoing drought and the scheduled Bulk Water Transfer from Windamere Dam to Burrendong Dam has triggered Council to implement moderate restrictions as part of its water conservation measures. Water restrictions apply to all town drinking water supplies. Council will ensure it is complying with these restrictions when using town drinking water. A number of Council facilities, including its playing fields, parks and gardens utilise raw water or bore water, and whilst there are no restrictions on these sources Council teams are aiming to conserve water wherever possible.

Why is Council implementing Level 2 water restrictions? What is a commercial use? What is Council doing to conserve water?Restrict outdoor water use to handheld hoses for no more than one hour every second day, before 9am or after 4pm. Restrict outdoor water use to handheld hoses for no more than 30 minutes every second day, before 9am or after 4pm. Further restricts the use of water outdoors to handheld hoses for a maximum of 10 minutes, every second day, before 9am or after 4pm.
How every second day works: This works in the following way: If your house is an even number then you can water on the even days of the month, the 2nd, 4th, 6th etc if your house in an odd number, then you can water on the odd days of the month, the 1st, 3rd, 5th etc. There is no residential outside water use on the 31st of the month. A further level, emergency restrictions, could be enacted if the situation becomes very serious and water supplies are running low.
Depending on the particular situation, Council would advise residents of what they are required to do in this case. MidCoast Council operates five water supply schemes — four of which are reliant on the flows of nearby rivers.
The Manning scheme, which provides water to customers from Crowdy Head in the north to Tarbuck Bay in the south, draws its water from the Manning River. We have a storage dam at Bootawa, which is filled by pumping water from the Manning River just upstream from Wingham.
This pumping is reliant on good flows in the river. These restrictions ban all outdoor water use and urge the community to be careful with their indoor use. An emergency restriction period is entered when we are forced to draw into the deep storage of Bootawa Dam.
A similar situation operates for the Barrington, Karuah and Crawford rivers. As these areas rely on their own water source, sometimes we do have different towns on different water restriction levels.
We want to work with you to ensure any impact on your business is minimised, while conserving as much water as possible during restrictions. The following information provides you with a guide to how you are required to implement water restrictions, which are mandatory.
If you require more information, you can ask us anything about your business and water restrictions on the form below.
For production-related water use, check the fact sheets below, or contact us via the online form below. At these levels, businesses are required to restrict outdoor water use, with some exemptions. If you require exemptions, or would like to develop a water management plan, please complete the online form below. Tighter restrictions apply for businesses using water outdoors. You should contact us to complete a water management plan at this level of restrictions, by completing the online form below.Thank you to everyone who made our holiday such a wonderful memory.
